Roma Inclusion in Romania: Policies, Institutions and Examples

This report represents an intermediary stage within the project titled, “Adapting shared experiences to each partner”. The project objective is the development of cooperation practices in the field of Roma inclusion by cross-border transfer of data and exchange of local good practices in order to promote the inclusion of Roma. The project also aimed at increasing the capacity of organizations dealing with Roma integration in Romania, Spain, Italy, and Bulgaria.

The report briefly presents the national and European public policies and initiatives applied in the last two decades with regard to the Roma minority inclusion in Romania. It seeks to identify the limitations and problems, success or failure, as well as the potential future solutions of public policy action. Although there are some positive practices targeting Romani children education in the report, it is shown how ethnic segregation and lack of access to quality education remain big challenges.
